Your December vegetable planting guide

With the cost of living continuing to increase, many of us have begun growing our own vegetables.

You may want to grow a few to supplement or a lot to cover your needs. Either way, it is relatively easy to get started.

Sydney has perfect weather for growing vegetables; if you have a sunny spot, there is no better time to get started. Sydney offers us a warm temperate zone for planting.

Easy growing

Lettuce - This remains one of the easiest plants to grow in your garden. It is an all-season vegetable and can be grown in the ground or a pot. Pop it in the full sun and when you are ready to harvest, take what you need. The plant will continue to grow. A plant gift that keeps on giving with plenty of varieties to choose from.

Kale - A superfood that is easy to grow and easy to enjoy. Extreme heat is not always its friend, so be mindful.

Green beans - Another very easy plant to grow and provide you with delicious vegetables for summer.

Cucumber - Such a humble vegetable that provides a lot of food for your family.

Carrots - Growing all year round, carrots are fun for the whole family. Orange, white, and purple varieties make for a fun crop of healthy snacks.

Tomatoes - Most people love tomatoes, which can be grown all year round. A favourite is the small tom thumbs. Be warned; once you have a homegrown tomato, you will never want to buy from the store again.

Watermelon - If you have space, watermelons are a fun crop for the family in summer.

So what will you be planting this summer?
